If you should find yourself in the Royal City Mall for whatever reason, Amar's is the place to eat. No wait, the reverse is true - Amar's is one reason to go into the mall in the first place. And it's addictive, like this:

Choose a combo. Choose a curry.* Choose rice or naan.** Choose fountain pop, samosas on the side and hot sauce. Choose paying less than $10 bucks for a whole lot of food. Choose sitting in that food court, stuffing your face, seeing the envy from those unfortunate folks who chose A&W or Fresh Slice. Choose extra napkins. Choose a bellyful of satisfaction. Choose spice. Choose Amar's!

Note: do not run maniacally laughing down 6th Street afterward. That would be bad.

    * Butter chicken, of course, but the aloo gobi is a solid vegetarian choice. It's all fresh. You can't go wrong.
    **I recommend the naan bread!

The food is ok, but definitely not something to make a special trip for.

The chicken briyani I had was not bad but not that memorable either.

I tried the combo of 2 meat curries + rice. I also ordered a small serve of pakoras. I had the butter chicken and chili chicken with rice. I thought it was a bit on the stingy side in doling out the sauce. The chicken pieces were cubed (probably breast meat) and not very tender. They bordered on the dry side. The chili chicken was a mix of dark and white meat and was much better (at least not bone dry).

The pakoras were seasoned very well and a few pieces became too salty but they went well with the rice. So do not eat them on its own.

Prices are fair for the combo. There is also a smaller portion type of combo where you can get a skewer of meat with rice for $5-6. Otherwise, the prices are around $8-9.

This is located inside the mall. It is fast food Indian food, therefore, adjust your expectations in accordance with. You are getting more volume for cheap than you are of quality in terms of taste, therefore, this review reflects that with the understanding that I was going in with realistic expectations. I had the briyani. Not the way my mom makes it, however, it is always good to see and taste a different take on it even if it is fast food. I have been to other fast food Indian places which has a lot more flavor and care, therefore, was very underwhelmed for what it was. The price was reasonable and the customer service was super friendly.

So, this place used to be owned by a couple maybe 3-4 years ago. Always a friendly visit and everything handmade and fresh, especially the naan; made fresh for your order. Their butter chicken was something I would go out of my way to grab. It would also be my lunch back in high school. They received an award for "Best Butter Chicken in Town" and that award is still hanging even though there are new owners and their food is not so good, not the "best in town" for sure. I am so disappointed that they have sold the place. I miss the old Amar's.

Not bad. I like the chicken curry and the samosas! But the service was not really efficient when I first come to them (maybe because the person was new). I really like the green and spicy thing, I don't know their name, but if you love spicy food you should try this thing.
